As a mom of three kids, I used to despise packing for vacations or even a short weekend trip to Grandma’s house. All the clothes, all the shoes, all the things; it would quickly become way too overwhelming.
After our last trip to the beach, I knew that I had to come up with a better system. I really needed to know how to pack for my sanity.
If you too find yourself going a little cray cray when you are packing for multiple kids, here are a few packing tips for you.
I know how much you having on, mama. Trust me, I KNOW. But when it comes to preparing for any upcoming trips, do not wait until the last minute to pack. First of all, you will forget something. When you are rushing at the last minute, it is inevitable.
Secondly, it is better to start the process ahead of time so that your mind is clear and you can focus on more important things.
Make a List
I love a good list. But that’s just me. But making a list either on paper or on your phone is extremely helpful when you have to pack for multiple kids and yourself.
You can list everything you need or what I like to do is write out the days we will be on vacation and what I will need for that day then add the small things we would need for the entire trip such as toiletries, sunscreen, etc.
You can use the Notes app on your phone or get fancy and use something like Evernote or even Trello to keep everything organized. You can even use these for planning your actual trip and things you will be doing.
Group Like Items Together
In my recent video (see above), you can see how I pack things like undies and other like items in ziploc bags.
You can also use packing cubes like these that I found on Amazon to create an even more organized packing situation.
Multiple Outfits, One Pair of Shoes
When it comes to packing for multiple kids, you will be packing a lot of stuff so you need all the room you can get. If I were to pack 2 pairs of shoes for each child, I am losing out on space that could be used for something else.
The shoes that they wear match everything that I have packed. The only excpetion is if we are going to the beach and I will pack flip flops or water shoes; but other than that, I do not pack shoes!
Do NOT Stress It!
This is my most important tip. Do not stress the packing! Really! And if you forget something…oh well!
Remember that you are there to make memories and the small things don’t matter. Focus on your family and have an amazing trip.
